Our Sunday School

Sunday School children support Arlington Food Shelf!

This Spring, the St. James Episcopal Church Sunday School children are holding a series of events in support of the Arlington Food Shelf. St. James Sunday Schoolers are calling themselves "the St. James Shepherds" and are asking attendees to these events to bring non-perishable food items or monetary donations as payment for these special events.

To kick off this season of giving, the kids are holding a bake sale on Sunday, May 4th immediately following the 10 AM service. Children will be baking and hosting this bake sale. In exchange for baked goods, people can bring non perishable food items. There will be dollar amounts on each item so anyone wishing to donate monetarily can do so, and we will use the money to purchase food.

The first full event, a Community Talent Show, will be held on Sunday, May 18th at noon. The community at large (both children and adults) - are welcomed to be part of the show. Weather permitting, the Talent Show will be held outside on the parish lawn. Coffee and light refreshments will be served. We welcome any and all talents!  If you would like to help out or perform in the show, please call Laura Weiss at 442-7700 or the Parish Office.

Future events include a car wash on June 1st and a Kid's Carnival on June 15th. Watch for details!  All proceeds go to the Arlington Food Shelf.  Please support our kids in their efforts!

OVERVIEW

The St. James Sunday School program has recently gone through some exciting changes in format and program design. The St. James family is excited about this new direction, and encourage all to join us in this new endeavor.

Nursery care (infants through pre-school) begins at 9:00 AM, along with the Sunday School program
Our Sunday School program is geared to children ages 4 - 14; older children are invited to help serve as Sunday School assistants.

Parents are invited to bring their children to church at 9:00 AM. From 9:00 - 9:30, the children  meet with Laura Weiss, our music instructor/educator, and several other young volunteers to learn lessons and songs. (infants and pre-school children will be in the Nursery area and Nursery Care continues throughout Sunday School and also the 10 AM service)

During this time parents are invited to visit with one another and Fr. Scott Neal for informal discussion and coffee in the Memorial Lounge. At 9:30, Laura moves on to work with the adult choir and Fr. Scott meets with the children until 9:45. From 9:45- 10:00 is free time for the children, and then they join their parents for the 10 AM service. During the service, the children will have age-appropriate worksheets and simple projects that are related to the day's Lessons and Gospel and they can work on those quietly at their pews through the service.

Many of our children are already involved in the service, as acolytes, torch bearers, helping as greeters and ushers and much more, and we continue to encourage their participation and involvement in all aspects of the service.
